Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea
Makes 1 gallon

2 large tea bags (Lipton) or
4 smaller tea bags (the Lipton decaffeinated ones are smaller)
1 1/2 cups sugar

Directions

1.  Bring small pot of water to rapid boil.  Put in tea bags and put on low heat.  Let steep for at least 10-15 minutes.
2.  Meanwhile, put sugar in tea jug.
3.  Pour tea into jug.  Fill pot with water, squeeze any excess tea out of bags using a wooden spoon, and pour into jug.  Fill the rest of the jug with water.  Mix tea really well, until sugar completely dissolves.  Refrigerate.

I had Piggie Smalls on my back, kicking & fussing cause he was hungry!

Can you tell I use my tea jug too much? Ha!

It has steeped to a nice, dark color.

Hot tea on sugar action, this is how it's done!

Well in the South they drink it year round, no matter how cold the weather we love sweet iced tea. But it's definitely a very refreshing summertime drink! 🙂

I had to laugh when you said they served you unsweetened tea in California. How do you think all those women keep their figures? I can't imagine the uproar if sweetened tea was served anywhere in Los Angeles County! LOL!Thanks doll,The Glamorous Housewife

Lol!! Very true. Well maybe they should take notes cause I have a great figure and I've drank sweet tea most of my life! 😉 Maybe it's hereditary luck though.

I am from Bama (Roll Tide) and now live in Chicago. Just this week my husband and I invited a couple over for a traditional Southern dinner, complete with flap jacks and our delicious SWEET TEA! I was trying to explain to them that Sweet Tea is something that Southerners LOVE and are so obsessed with! I also wanted to tell you that your "how to" on sweet tea is 100% dead right down to the number of tea bags! GREAT POST!

Oh how cool! How did they like the dinner? My husband and his family are from Mexico and had never tried Sweet Tea either and every time they come up to visit they completely finish off the tea LOL. It's addicting!
