Since picking up the pace with my blogging a few months ago, I've really delved into this interesting and wonderful blogworld of ours. There are countless upon countless amazing blogs with fascinating bloggers behind them. If there is one thing I love to do more than blog, it's browsing through all of the other blogs around me.
I've noticed a few interesting things while blog hopping. One of them is in regards to larger blogs. Not all of them, but a lot of them, hardly receive any comments. Yet they have thousands of followers.
I've pondered why this is. I think it has to do with a few things, mainly participation. I think a lot of bloggers stop participating and interacting with their readers after a certain point.
Maybe they started getting too many comments that they ran out of time to comment or visit back every so often? Totally understandable if you're receiving a lot of comments, I mean, most of us have busy days. But at some point, they had to have stopped engaging completely. This goes for small blogs too. When crickets are the only ones who show up in your comments section, there is likely a reason. And it's probably not entirely related to your writing skills or content.
I feel like the whole reason why I blog {okay actually I have a few reasons} are because:
a - I love to write, I love to document, and I love to share
b - I love connecting with others
B is really important. If no one were to ever read my blog, there would be no fun in it. Yes, I've always liked to journal to remember things and to get my thoughts out, but interacting and sharing with others is what I'm here for. Isn't that what we're all here for?
So why blog if you're too busy or not interested enough to interact with your readers or the blogging community at all?
I know personally, as a reader, that if I've commented on your blog several times without any response from you, I don't come back. Really because I figure you're not even reading your comment section, and who wants to waste their time writing out a thoughtful comment to someone who may not even read it?
I don't.
So the moral of my long-winded story is: don't ignore the people who take the time to read your blog and leave thoughtful comments. And chances are, if something you wrote resonated with them, they're writing stuff that will resonate with you. I've found some of my most favorite blogs from my comments section. Like this one, this one, this one, and this one for example. And I also love this one. Okay I'm done.
