CFD providers that belong to a protection scheme are considered relatively stable. Deposits are thus protected up to a certain amount in the event of insolvency. However, it is up to each broker to decide in which form it protects its customer funds.
There are considerable differences here, even if most brokers like exness broker singapore are based in an EU member state. With regard to deposit insurance, two situations must be distinguished. If a broker becomes insolvent, clients can have two different types of claims against him. Firstly, claims from credit balances on client accounts that were not involved in open transactions. Secondly, claims from open transactions.
Segregated customer accounts with resilient deposit protection
If a broker does not have a banking licence, he is not allowed to accept deposits himself. Client funds are then held in custody at banks. The custody must be separate from the broker's business assets and must take place in segregated customer accounts, i.e. accounts that can be allocated to individual customers.
If a broker himself holds a banking licence and manages the customer funds himself or if the bank entrusted with the custody becomes insolvent, the statutory deposit guarantee should apply. An EU directive requires the member states to maintain a national deposit guarantee scheme that protects assets of up to €100,000 per customer in the event of insolvency (other limits may apply in EU member states outside the euro currency union) without a deductible.
However, the statutory deposit guarantee is not an unrestrictedly trustworthy guarantee.
- It does not constitute a legal claim against a state.
- States can also become insolvent - the Cyprus crisis in spring 2013 clearly demonstrated this recently for one of the largest CFD broker locations in Europe.
Investors should therefore also take into account the state of a country's financial sector as well as the condition of its public budgets. Receivables from open transactions Most brokers based in Cyprus have switched to keeping client funds with banks in Germany or the UK.
The compensation amount of this institution is limited to 90 % of the claim amount or a maximum of € 20,000. Most German brokers are connected to the EdW.
The responsibility for branches is essentially limited to checking the correct postal address. For brokers based in Germany, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bafin) is responsible. The relevant authority in Great Britain is the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Brokers in Cyprus are regulated by CySEC.
If you want to find out about the integrity of a broker, you can consult the websites of the regulatory authorities. There, notices are published on brokers who, for example, have had their licence revoked or are soliciting clients with a false or non-existent registration number.
Further criteria to influence the security yourself
- With foreign CFD brokers, pay attention to the existence of deposit protection or regulation. If you are unsure, contact the CFD provider.
- The stability of the trading platform is another important selection criterion.
- Almost all CFD providers are market makers, which means that traders are only provided with prices close to those of the stock exchange. If you want to be on the safe side, you should choose a broker that offers DMA trading, but then you have to expect higher order fees.
Even if the deposit guarantee provides basic protection for deposits in the event of the broker's insolvency, CFD trading is a speculative business overall. For this reason, good money management is at least as important for the trader to carry out successful CFD trading.

This looks so fun! We don't do one-on-one activities with our kids enough, but you've definitely made me want to, even if this post is about a family walk! Now that it's cooling down we like going on walks in the evening before bed, and it has been so nice just to get out of the house! We'll have to try those Clif bars! The Oatmeal Cookie one sounds amazing!
Monica
I've missed your blog. So happy that I thought to check out your fb page and come visit. I'm never disappointed. Your free printable is the cutest thing ever. My children would love to do this daily.
How about winter walks though, you participate in those?! ? Oh wait... You're in Arizona (or somewhere) with sunshine year round. It's about to be a blizzard mess with snow to my waist in a couple months!!! =) Lol
Jessica Dimas
Monica, long time no see!! I'm glad to hear you're doing well! Haha we definitely don't have to deal with blizzards but we have the opposite, 115 degree summer days, so I feel ya on certain parts of the year being near impossible to go on walks. Actually I feel like our "winter" months are coming to an end and we can finally venture outside without it feeling like an oven haha! ?
Tiffany
We are big on family walks. All great benefits, especially getting some of that energy out, haha!
Marietta
My kids and I love going on walks! But, our neighborhood isn't really the best for it. It isn't horrible, but it's not particularly safe either. I'm hoping that by this time next year, we will be in a new house and in a new, family-friendly neighborhood. Then we will be walking all the time!
Jessica Dimas
I hope you are too Marietta! I could definitely understand that situation, I've lived in some places before that were safe but were just...questionable haha.

Hi Jessica! Family walks are the best ? We have some of the best conversations with the girls when we go on walks. We definitely need to do them more often
