Jumping in the baby bouncer |
Sometimes, I get frustrated with Piggie.
I become overwhelmed and snap at him
to be quiet for just one moment
to not wake the baby up
to not throw food on the floor
to not push the rocking chair while I'm in it with the baby
to not lay on his brother
to not push his brother so hard in the swing
to not drink the bath water
I can hear a voice in the back of my head saying
"you have to set limits"
"they're going to test you"
But really, while that's partly true
I need to remember where he's really at
Piggie believes
that if he closes his eyes, you can't see him
that he can hide under the table and no one will find him
that when he acts like a dinosaur, he really is one for that moment
that dinosaurs even exist
that my kisses heal his scrapes and bruises
that he can make red lights turn green by counting to 10
And if he believes all those things
How would he have the capacity to willfully disrespect me
or purposely agitate me?
He doesn't. No toddler does.
They are the epitome of innocence.
So the next time I feel irritation creeping up on me
I'm going to remember his dinosaur impressions
And the way he curls his hands up like the t-rex and snarls at me
Cause that's what he is. Pure innocence.
(A sometimes overwhelming little bundle of innocence, but innocent nonetheless!)
They always look so innocent when they're asleep, don't they?! |

Love the sleeping pic! I get like this too with my babies and immediately feel horrible for snapping at them. Who yells at a baby? <--horrible mom here. I have been recognizing what frustrates me, mostly when they won't go down for naps or crying while I'm making their food, and I've prayed about it consistently. I love how you take yourself out of that moment and think about the sweet, innocent moments. I'm going to remember to do this along with my deep breaths and counting to ten! 😉
Jessica
Yes, lots of deep breaths and counting to ten! Don't worry, you're not the only one who has absentmindedly snapped at her babies in a stressful moment, plus you have TWINS! We've all been there, but the fact that we CARE and want to do BETTER shows that we're TRYING and we're GOOD moms 🙂
